Mike Del Vecchio: Guide

Mike's love of the outdoors and fishing began as a young boy through yearly camping trips in Northern Ontario with his father and friends. He jumped at the opportunity to work at the Old Post and Village in the spring of 2003, working as a dock boy. He wasn't at camp long before he had his sights set on guiding and quickly began to learn the tools of the trade. Mike has now been guiding for 6 years. He has developed a deep understanding of the fish habitat on lake St. Joe. Mike 's passion for fishing can be felt each morning when he sets off on the lake to find the "big one". He takes pride in delivering excitement and zest to each individual fisherman whether they are out to fish the masses of walleye or hook that trophy pike.

The Mystery of Lake St Joseph - My life, My Story

Shawn Fishback: Guide

How Shawn Came to Love Fishing...

I was born and raised in a small town in Southern Ontario called New Hamburg.  I have a family of four, myself a younger sister and my parents.  My love of fishing started at a young age of 8 months old when I went on my first fishing trip with my dad Bill and my mom Joanne Fishback.  Since then I have been hooked on catching fish with my dad in tow.  I live an hour from 3 great lakes (Ontario, Huron and Erie) and have fished all three as much as I can.  I also fish smaller lakes around my home for pike, bass and perch and have annual trips to northern lakes for walleye or lake trout.  My real passion for fishing comes in catching trophy fish to brag about to whoever I can.  I am currently a student at Conestoga College.  I am in my second year of a two year program for business.  After this I hope to find a job and start saving up for my own charter boat and business.  When I am not in school I work at a retail fishing store and at the local arena sharpening skates.  I am entering my third ear at the Old Post and I look forward to this one the most because they keep getting better!!

Lake St.Joseph Shore Lunch Chowderclick here

Scroll down to see our shore lunch menu...

Whether you're looking for an expedition down the lake in search of monster pike, or if you just want to learn the local hot spots and enjoy a relaxing shore lunch, our friendly and knowledgeable guides will plan the day in accordance with the expectations and wishes of your group. A typical guided day begins with departure from the Old Post at approximately 8:00 am after discussing your fishing strategy for the day with your guide. Once your destination has been determined, you will begin your journey down pristine Lake St. Joseph. Upon arrival, your guide will gather the group and explain the area that you will be fishing, as well as answer any questions that your group may have. By the time the Northern fresh air has peaked your appetite and the fish have worn out your arms, there is no doubt that you will have caught plenty of walleye for your guide to prepare for shore lunch. Your guide will choose an unspoiled location where you can take a rest and enjoy a hearty, home-cooked meal expertly prepared over an open wood fire. Although your shore lunch menu will vary from day-to-day, a typical example would be as follows: Wild Rice Stir-Fry

  • locally harvested wild-rice with sautéed mushrooms and onions, stir-fried with soya sauce and spices
Freshly caught, deep-fried walleye
  • fresh walleye filets battered in flour, cornflake crumbs and spices, deep-fried in vegetable oil until golden brown
or

Freshly caught, poached walleye

  • fresh walleye filets poached over a bed of sautéed mushrooms and onions seasoned with our unique blend of spices
Baked Beans
  • need we say more?
Once your hunger is satisfied and the group is ready to carry on, we will return to the water for an afternoon planned around your expectations before returning to camp in time for dinner.
